little feet (not little feat)

the studio has been hotter than hell and i got next to nothing done in the past two days. today seemed more tolerable and i did get the next few envelope forms finished and footed...

i decided to not do slip work on these, just a simple swipe of texture with a seashell

once these were done i moved on to making brie bakers. i have never made them before and actually had never heard of them until coming to seagrove. i have baked brie for years but never in little crocks like we have had requests for here. since people keep asking about them i decided to give it a go... i didn't take pics because they are boring little forms. when i bake a brie i spread herb cheese all over it and wrap it in a puff pastry, decorate it with pastry cuttings and bake... i usually use a pie plate because i use a good size wedge of brie and it needs lots of room to puff up. it's pretty and yummy and will send your cholesterol through the roof.
i think once i see if i have the size right for these bakers, i will have to figure out a way to make them mine and a little more fun to make... handles? little feat?... i mean feet...

  1. Those feet look great on those forms, do you wait till they harden up to put on the feet?

  2. the forms were leather hard when i attached the feet. i work on a foam circle so i don't muck up the rims. i tap them level on a clean ware board or bat. i used to actually use a small speed square to level them but it hasn't turned up since the move. i leveled them by eye.

  4. Little FEET! I am not a production potter or traditional or country either, but people have asked me for the toothbrush holders, the French butter keepers, garlic things, berry bowls, brie bakers, and well, depending on my mood, I don't really want to do that stuff. I just plain don't get into somebody else's ideas., you know? Kicking myself this week for doing a number of things for a store I like, and it would have just been better if they had noit asked me for specific things and I made what I felt like instead :)

  5. i agree with you Gary... i have a really hard time making things that weren't my idea. i have friends that used to call me all the time and say "i saw this thing at such and such... you should make those, i bet they would be good sellers". they finally got the message and stopped sending "ideas" to me!

  7. I sell a lot of brie bakers. Get's old making them, but they are easy. I had a show this spring where 75% of my sales were teabag rests... So depressing that no one wanted art, just trinkets.
