Balance

After the poor me, I have to make sponge holders rant, I found that I had some time to make just what I wanted to make.

Orbs, rattles, and spoons.

I worked into the evening on Tuesday getting them made and spent part of yesterday afternoon carving them.

I have the opportunity to fire these, along with a few pigs, in a neighbors wood kiln this week.

The rattles sell pretty quickly, especially when wood fired. They are definitely not something that people "need", but after they pick them, hold them, and shake them...
they WANT them.

Yesterday felt like a perfect work balance. I carved the orbs and rattles and also finished an order for flower dotted soup mugs. These are enjoyable to make and don't seem like work. I am not really doing much slip trailing anymore, unless it's for an order. If I had a wood kiln I would do more and probably combine it with carving. Someday we will have that wood kiln. One can never stop dreaming.

  1. I like the soups. I haven't exactly settled on one form for them yet. These are attractive, compact, and look like you could stack them.

A satisfying way to fire as well, especially when done with friends.

  5. Ahhh, wood fired pots. They call my name this time of year.
You make those sponge holders and make the best damn ones available, everybody needs a sponge holder, not everyone needs a $500 vase! just be proud of your craft, your beautiful studio/shop, and the fact that you earn your own way in this world. Celebrate that!

  6. I love your carved orbs, something magical about the sound they make; some day I hope to get a pot or two in a wood firing.

  7. Dennis - Jeff and I do a few different soup mugs. This shape was made at the request of the buyer and I think I am going to like it!

Tracey - thank you for the compliment and reminder that I need to be thankful for what I have.
