running water

We spent today battling the frozen water pump/pipes issue that comes along with arctic temps in a structure that wasn't designed for this kind of weather. As I looked at the dishes piling up in the sink, my mind drifted to the vessel sinks that Jeff has been making, and shipping out across this country and Canada...

Jeff's sinks are a generous size, deep and wide enough to function well. I have seen, and used, many vessel sinks that just weren't deep enough to wash your hands in without splashing water everywhere.
Clicking on the first photo will take you to Jeff's Etsy shop where you can take a look at pricing etc. We have a few sinks in stock, but most are custom ordered.

I am hoping that tomorrow we will have water and I can wash all those dishes that are piling up! In the meantime, I hope you are all fairing well in these frigid temps.

  1. Nice sinks. I made some sinks for Penland School a few years ago. They were tricky, though. They wanted overflow and I had a tricky time designing that part. But they worked and its nice to visit them over at the school from time to time and wash my hands! ;-)

    Keep warm!

  3. I wish leaving our water running had helped us!

Jeff has made a few sinks with an overflow... it is tricky. I may have photo of one showing the over flow... somewhere. if I find it I will post it.

  5. You know running water is a luxury that we hate not having. I hope you thaw out soon. We use to make sinks and I wish I had one right now. I could use it.

  6. Meesh, you are a northerner, I know, and will not be surprised to hear that when our old house was rebuilt ten years ago the contractor cleverly combined the heat duct with the water pipes in a clever insulated tube, so that warm heat always keeps the pipe unfrozen. I doubt there is much reason for that in the south though!

  7. Good luck with the water. I hate doing plumbing repairs. Seems like you fix one end of a pipe and the other end starts leaking. As for the rest of the post,I think the first sink is particularly gorgeous. Jeff's work is always nice.

  8. Oh, I'm so sorry for you, that sucks. It's only during weather like this that I'm glad I don't have water running to the studio. I hope the fix is easy.

    Beautiful sinks.

  9. Beautiful and elegant sinks! Toes crossed that everything thaws soon. (You've lived in the north so you know to watch out for leaks!) It's supposed to be 50 F. by Saturday!

Your pump 'luck' has spread to us. Our well pump has died a slow death. We have another which Proge and his father plan to install as soon as the weather is not so brutally cold and windy!

Meanwhile we pump water from the pool into buckets we store in the shower. Drinking water is pumped into 5 gallon jugs from the well. Thank heaven for portable sump pumps! I boil water on the stove and we have the kindness of neighbors for showers.

This is more of a drag than when we were in the woods when we filled pressure tanks once a week!

  10. Thankfully the plumbing is pex which expands and contracts. Jeff has had a light bulb in the water pump shelter since yesterday. We think the line is frozen in the ground or else the pump died. Temps above freezing this afternoon... fingers (and toes) crossed!

  13. Jeff's sinks are absolutely beautiful. Maybe one day when we get in a house we want to stay in for awhile, I will get one of my very own!
