Time Flies

Has it really been a week since my last blog post? I have been so busy that the week has flown by. In between taking care of customers (traffic is picking up around here) we mixed glaze, glazed pots, loaded and fired the gas kiln. Last night we started to unload the kiln. More than half of it was filled with piggy banks for a wholesale order. The other half was two vessel sinks and some odds and ends.

The snakes were part of the "odds and ends".
It's a good thing my sister doesn't read the blog. She doesn't like snakes in any way, shape, or form.

We had our fingers crossed that this sink order would fire perfectly and it did!
We had another made and ready to go just in case. It is the first time that Jeff and I have collaborated on a vessel sink. This order came from a show last Spring, where we barely made our booth fee. Getting this commission made the show worth going to.
Have a great Sunday, hopefully I will have something to say before next Sunday arrives.

  1. Oh that's a beauty, is that green darker than the glaze you use on the plates and bowls? the rim is beige, is it fired upside down?

Those snakes look so real, great for a Halloween trick.

  2. I think this batch of green might be a little darker. The rim and outside are shino, the combo I usually use. The shino varies from firing to firing, depending on reduction and placement in the kiln. The sinks are fired on right side up.
I have fun making the snakes! I sold all of the wood fired ones that I made in the past. I also have a collector who wants me to let her know whenever I have new snakes.

  3. Those sinks are just amazing, one of these days I am going to have a permanent house I can put one in.
I Raku fired some snakes last year and the ones that survived sold right away. Plus they are kinda fun to make aren't they?!

  4. Tracey, I am not fond of snakes, but respect them for their place in nature. I think making them helps alleviate my fear of them. I should try raku firing a few!

  5. I get it, I’ve been so busy it’s hard to find the time to write.

The sink looks great, I hope you have lots more orders for ones like it.
