A Home Filled With Light

One of the biggest challenges of living in the log cabin, was darkness. Lights needed to be on throughout the day. The only sunlight that came in the through the windows was in the bedroom, on the second floor. Upstairs was where Sophie cat and the house plants lived. Sophie descended the spiral staircase for meals and evening cuddles, but pretty much spent her days sleeping on the bed.

Our new home has BIG windows everywhere! I am loving the sunlight as much as Sophie. She spends her days following the patches of light shining in. Her mornings start at the end of the hallway, then she works her way into the living room.

Our houseplants have also been flourishing in the light as well. The other day Meredith, over at Whynot Pottery, posted on facebook that she had spider plant babies to give away. Of course I immediately said, "me, me, I will take some". Monday afternoon she delivered my new babies. I can't wait to watch them grow and have babies of their own. I haven't had a spider plant in forever... as Meredith said on fb, spider plants are so 1982. I think it was the 80's the last time I had one! I think they are coming back into fashion. I noticed that my sister has one at her house, and she is always very fashionable.

  1. our new place is full of light like your new home; what's the orb there, you may have told me before, must be my memory;l someone told me that a cat can detect a 1/2 a degree in temperature so that is why you see them sitting in the sun; our inside thermostat when the sun is just right in the afternoon this time of year if we have it set on air, the thermostat heats up and air comes on when we don't even need it; I noticed that the other day and shut the thing off. ugh

    1. I don't think I photographed the white orb before. It had been sitting on the porch at the cabin and when we moved I decided to bring it in. It was made by in intern the worked for Jeff in NH. It's cool little piece with cracks in it, not sure if they were intentional.

  2. Some of the feedback we are getting from realtors on our house is that its too dark. Its great in the summer when you can pretend to be in a cool dark cave, but in the winter I crave light! More light is definitely on my wish list for a new house!
Yes spider plants, we seem to be selling a lot of them where I work. I also had them in the '80's.

    1. Not everyone craves the sun like us, the right buyer will come along. In the meantime... leave a few lights on when the house is shown ;-)

  5. I love a light-filled house too. I didn't know plants even went in & out of fashion! Ha! I'm definitely not a trend setter. No telling how long I've had my spider plants.

  7. I can see that the cabin was cool, but with the porch it would be dark PLUS there are probably all kinds of creepy crawlies, like SNAKES AND BUGS under that porch!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Yes, there were snakes and bugs... but they are hard to escape anywhere in NC! We had a black snake sunning himself outside our basement door, the other day.
