Buenos Noches

wow...it has been a busy month. we have had a successful firing :-) and went to the boston gift show to wholesale john's piggy banks...picked up a couple of accounts and did lots of networking. the highlight of the trip to boston was a visit to the Pucker Gallery on Newbury St....we actually got to hold pots made by Hamada and Shimaoka!!!
spring is on it's way to new england...you can smell it in the air. i will be glad when mud season is over and things start to turn green :-)

the return of winter...

yikes! it is freezin' outside.... but it is March so the end it near. The visit to the art gallery went great...i was happy with how my piece was displayed and even happier to see that John's piece sold!!!!
Today the gas company is at the studio replacing some ancient gas lines to our kiln. John rebuilt the kiln in the late summer and after this it will really be totally new. It's a big kiln...nearly 60 cubic feet....it holds a lot of pots. Here are pics I took of the rebuilding....

Beautiful Day

The Sun is shining in NH...and I am taking a break from real estate today. Our studio is full of pots that are glazed and waiting to be fired. We are waiting for the gas company to replace some pipes so the firing is on hold until that is done this week (more later on our kiln). Since there isn't room to create more pots we will head over to the Sharon Arts Center Gallery in Peterboro and see our work on display. We never did get there in Friday...
I am a little bit nervous about seeing my work displayed in a public place....John assures me it will look beautiful. I did display work at two student exhibitions at the NH Institute of Art...but it was all student work...this time it will be there along with many master potters from throughout the state.
.....the coffee is ready and calling me now.....

snow, sleet and freezing rain...

...that pretty much describes the day here in NH. Tonite is the opening reception for the NH Potter's Guild Biennial Exhibition, "Message of Mud". The exhibition is at the Sharon Arts Center Gallery in Peterborough, NH. Not sure it will happen since the weather is not good. 2 years ago I did not submit a piece for the show....I was not confident enough. This year I have a raku fired piece in the exhibition. I love raku firing....the colors are beautiful and the results are often surprising. I have done all my raku firing with my teacher and friend Jeff Brown at his studio in Northwood NH...just down the road aways from the studio that John Zentner and I share. Here are some pictures from raku firings in the last year...

Bon Jour

I have been feeling the need to get my pots out into the world beyond the homes of my family and friends. I have been working in clay since Spring of 2002... and started to really push myself to work harder about 2 years ago. So I figured a blog was a good place to get my feet wet...
the one thing I want to say today is:

I LOVE CLAY.
(really... i do)
