name the maker part II

can you name the makers? perhaps there will be a prize this time for whoever gets the most correct! to post your answers here you can create an account using your e-mail address...it's very simple... if REALLY don't want to do that go ahead and use facebook.

p.s. there is one that i don't even know who made it... so it would be a bonus if you can identify it!

today the rain makes me happy :-)

i don't very often say that rain makes me happy... BUT... i was almost out of water at the studio. as i have mentioned in previous posts my studio is charming yet primitive. i don't have the luxury of running water. i collect rain water off of the roof using a gutter and a homemade rain barrel. the good thing about no plumbing is that i don't ever have to worry about clay clogged drains!
when i get into the studio later today my rain barrel should be full to the top

notice that i do have the luxury of a spigot!

to keep mosquitos from breeding i add hydrogen peroxide to the barrel... i also pour the water through a glaze sieve into a 5 gal. bucket... a few teaspoons of bleach and i have some nice clean water...wouldn't want to drink it but it's just fine for throwing pots and making glazes!

silly art journal for august

the theme for the august art journal was "alterations"... when i think of alterations i think back to my childhood when my seamstress mother did alterations for people from home. i remember being around 3 years old and women would come to the house and my mother would mark their skirt hems or sleeves then she would say:
"i will give you a ring when your alterations are done."
i always wondered...
"where does she get those rings??" and "will i ever get one??"

i have no clue how that story connects to my decision to "alter" barbie. the photos are not clear, i hurriedly took them before mailing the journal to maine (it was REALLY late!).

happy labor day!

we have had great weather this holiday weekend in new hampshire...i am thankful to have had both saturday and today off from my real estate work. i put in some good studio time as well as participating in a wood firing with paul haig of wiley hill mudworks in londonderry. final stoking is tonight!!!
the new hampshire potters guild is in the process of re-building our community wood kiln at al jaeger's magical place in deerfield, nh. i brought jeff some lunch while he worked there on saturday. fellow potter kurt was there with his lovely greyhound maive. maive and i went for a walk and did a little exploring of al's property.

al makes mystical house sculptures and they are scattered throughout the woods on either side of the long drive to his home...i thought it was funny how maive's nose was in this picture!

loading the wood kiln on saturday...i am re-firing some of the pots that came out of my first gas firing...they are getting a second chance at being beautiful...
