Piedmont Craftsmen Virtual Show - July 25, 2020

Potters are good at being creative, especially during a pandemic. In person shows and exhibitions have been cancelled through the end of the year. We don't do many shows but do enjoy the one or two we do each year. We are juried members of Piedmont Craftsmen and we will participate in their first online show happening on Saturday. The show is on a really cool format where you can actually video chat with the artists during the show! We hope to see you there.

Piedmont Craftsmen is excited to present our first ever Virtual Fair on Saturday, July 25 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm EDT!

Join us and more than 30 of our Exhibiting Member Artists taking part in this live virtual event. Shoppers and visitors will be able to interact with each Craft Artist face-to-face from their studios, through easily accessible chat rooms via our Virtual Fair platform.

CCM Spring Pottery Festival

I am heading to Charlotte, NC tomorrow for the Carolina Clay Matters, Spring Pottery Festival. Last year Jeff did the show alone because I was in NH for my Mom's funeral. This year I will go it alone because he is in Mungyeong, S. Korea. I opted to simplify the booth to make set up and break down easier. I am leaving the Abstracta display system at home because it's such a pain to put together. I am sure someone will give me a hand with the EZ-UP tent that really isn't so easy!

No time for blogging these past few days. Jeff and I were back and forth between Seagrove and Carthage, firing with Prissy (Ouida) Newell in her big wood kiln.

Jeff fired overnight on Sunday after loading all day. The two of us took the night shift from 11:00 pm Monday till 5:30 am Tuesday. We slept a few hours at Prissy's then got up and helped with the last shift. The kiln was done and getting "clammed up" around 8:00 pm Tuesday.

Can you see one of my pigs getting roasted in there? He is on the shelf to the left. He should be nice and toasty, being right behind the firebox.

Prissy's barn/kiln shed is AMAZING! It's HUGE! The kiln is on the opposite end of these windows. On this end she has room to host workshops and during the festival that she is hosting next weekend, some artists will set up their booths inside.

When Prissy isn't making pots, she is an antique dealer, auctioneer, and builder... hence lots of cool things to look at in her kiln shed. This chandelier is just one of many, hanging from the beams. Jeff has dubbed it the Steampunk Kiln Shed.

We are going to unload this big kiln during the Clay on Fire Art Festival this Saturday, June 8th. Festival goers will have the opportunity to buy warm pots, fresh from the kiln. There will be quite a few potters from Seagrove and surrounding areas, along with other craft vendors, as well.  Raku firing, pottery demos, and live music, are all part of the fun. I have all the info in the right side bar of the blog, in the events section. If you aren't too far away, come out to Carthage for the day. Heck, if you are far away, it will be worth the trip!

Treasures of the Earth - Opening

Last night the Treasures of the Earth Pottery Sale and Exhibition opened at the Cleveland County Arts Council in Shelby, NC. It's a unique exhibition as the artists set up their own displays and leave them there for the entire month. The reception was well attended, despite the pouring rain. There were quite a few red dots by the end of the night and we felt we were off to good start.

We unloaded the kiln the night before the show. It was a good firing and there was no time to take photos before some of the pots were sanded, priced, and boxed. I have quite a few of the blue and shino flower bowls with handles. What didn't go to the show will get listed on Etsy this weekend.

The square soap dishes came out great. I am using a new wax and was a little worried about the rims.

I had a few ginkgo leaf vases in this firing, I wish I could have gotten a better picture of this one.

It was fun to leave town for the day. Jeff and I have rarely left the home and studio since before the holidays. If you are in or nearby Shelby, NC be sure to stop in at the Cleveland Arts Council to see Treasures of the Earth, info about the show is over there on the right sidebar.

Today it's back to everyday life. We have enough pots glazed to load and fire the kiln again this week.

No one can resist a "Sale" Sign!

I was up this morning a little after 8:00 am and was settled on the sofa with a hot cup of coffee and my computer. Round about 8:25 I hear someone outside saying "Hello, hello!". I got up and looked out the window to see a woman on the porch walk towards the window and peek in!
I was still in my jammies, but went out to see who she was. She saw our "shyard sale" tent outside and the big 20% off sign and had picked out some pots that she wanted to buy. I followed her out to the front of the gallery and we chatted a bit. Seems she and her husband have a farm in Carthage and they had a job to do here in Seagrove... she saw the sign and the tent, and made her husband (who was pulling a trailer with farm equipment on it) pull over. She must have been out there awhile because she had quite an assortment of pots picked out. We went inside to make the sale and she said she would be back in a few weeks with guests from out of town.
So I will admit that I will shamelessly go outside in my Snoopy pajamas to sell some pots...

Why didn't we have a "shyard" sale sooner? Today was another busy day and lots who have stopped in have said they have driven by before, but the sale sign made them pull over. It got them in the door, some bought sale pots others bought the not on sale pots. Most everyone said they would be back... with friends.

you can now purchase my pottery through ETSY. i have been talking about doing this for over a year. i uploaded my first item this morning and will add more over the next few days. to go to my shop simply click on the gallery to your right. i am anticipating a lot of changes in how i work over the next few months and this is the first step in that direction...can't tell you all my secrets yet...but they will slowly unfold.

4th Annual NH Potters Market

Saturday, October 18, 2008 is the NH Potter's Guild annual pottery sale. Same location as last year: Mount St. Mary's Academy, 2291 Elm St. Manchester NH. Hours 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to buy handcrafted pottery made in New Hampshire. Sadly this is the first year since it's inception that I will not be participating. Many of you know that JZ has had a serious illness and therefore our studio time has been limited. We will certainly miss seeing our regular customers there as well as the camaraderie that this event brings to the clay community.
