Jeff and I unloaded the kiln this morning. We actually waited until it was really cool before unloading, that could be a first for us!
The underglaze experiment is just ho-hum. The underglazes look much better fired to ^6. Jeff and I talked about doing some ^6 electric firing. Maybe during the winter when we have more time for experimentation.

oh my word those turquoise carved pieces are turning out beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI love your turquoise pieces, but to be honest, I'm not a fan of the underglazes with ^10. For me, they look fine on earthenware, but even then, not my most favorite. I like your carved pieces that get all toasty in the kiln better, so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI've found that most underglazes do best at ^5 or below but I did find a few that did well in ^10. I think Amoco has a chart on their website that you can download.

ReplyDeleteWe have a half a dozen jars of Velvet underglaze that were given to us, so at least I don't have any money into it.
I will continue to use the black, to fill in lines. It fires out to black and the flower pigs that I use it on have been selling well... whatya' bet this silly little bowl sells right away!
