The Command Center

This is where I have spent the last few days. On the sofa with a tray table nearby. I feel like such an invalid!

When we were moving to North Carolina we obviously had to get rid of stuff. Combining two households isn't easy and each of us had some difficulty letting go of some things. Jeff had a set of wood tray tables that I said to give away. He wanted to keep them. I never really had a use for tray tables, I think of them as "old school". Well let me tell you, this week I am loving these tray tables! I barely got off the sofa yesterday and my tray table kept everything I needed within reach of my "good arm".

I had a rough friday night. My shoulder hurt so bad that I was in tears most of the evening, the pain was constant. I couldn't sleep in bed, couldn't get comfortable... I paced around the house, holding my left arm, for what felt like forever. I finally got some relief after doubling up on naproxen. I fell asleep around 3am, sitting up on the sofa. In the morning the constant pain was gone, it only hurt when I moved my arm and it didn't bring tears to my eyes to do it. I still can't lift my arm on it's own, my right arm has to help it move. This morning I managed to make myself bacon, eggs, and grits... cracking an egg with my right hand proved a challenge! The yoke broke but it still tasted good and I didn't have to ask Jeff to make it for me. The next challenge for the day is an attempt to put clothes on.
Wish me luck!

  2. I agree with Dennis. Also you are probably going to need a lot of time to heal....just what you need with Christmas coming.
Toes crossed that all is well soon.

  3. Suzie and Dennis- I will give this a week and if I don't have a lot more improvement I am off to the Dr. Friday night Jeff was considering taking me to the emergency room.
On a good note... I am wearing clothes! Thank goodness for very stretchy fabric.

  4. Just a reminder, when you don't get much sleep and have been in a lot of pain (constant is the worst drain) you may not be thinking as clearly as normal...so get the opinion of relatives and friends, and perhaps don't wait another week for treatment! Be well.

  5. Talk to me tomorrow about pt.
I went through this and highly recommend setting up pt asap, don't wait.

  6. oh boy I know all too well how painful these types of injuries can be. Not being able to sleep or relax only prolongs recovery of any injury. Trying to relax with a muscle relaxant for a day or two often takes weeks off of recovery. I've suffered too many times with my back, hip and arm; at those times I couldn't afford the pt let alone drive the 40 miles one way to get it. Ice and muscle relaxants for one day helped; then I used ice off and on for weeks and tried to reduce my stress. Now if anything acts up I have an ice pack at the ready in the freezer even now in the motorhome so I can get ice asap to anything acting up. I wish you well and my thoughts are with you.

  8. I was reading about this pain on a google thread last night, there were 400 posts from people with the same thing, what in the world is going on that so many of us have this same pain!? Many of them suggested that vitamin D had been a great help, and magnesium..... I might give it a try, I probably wouldn't go to the doctor if I was dying, can you say aversion, haha!

  10. Hope you feel better soon. I had muscle spasms last month for a few weeks. Getting a massage and hot tub and cold tub actually completely healed it after trying ibuprofen and ice packs.
