Seagrove Potters Celebration of Spring Studio Tour & Kiln Opening

April 18 & 19, 2015
1423 NC Hwy 705
Seagrove, NC

Open both days - 10am - 5pm

The Celebration of Spring Studio Tour is my favorite event of the year. The countryside has sprung back to life, the grass is green, the trees are leafing out, and lots of flowers are blooming. It seems that no matter what the weather, there is a good turnout for this event.

Along with our "standards" from the gas kiln, we will have lots of new wood fired pots in the gallery.

If you are a tea or sake lover, Jeff has some real beauties from the last two wood firings.

There are 40+ potters on the tour this year. Many will offer demonstrations, refreshments, and door prizes. I will be working on carving a large ginkgo leaf bowl, and I am thinking Jeff will throw something big on Saturday afternoon. We have tour maps available in our gallery. Round up your friends and family and make Seagrove your destination this weekend!

"the untitled post" (I just couldn't think of one)

I haven't been very productive in clay for the last three days. Actually the correct wording should be that I have been NON-PRODUCTIVE in clay. My time has been spent  working three consecutive days at the Co-op in town. I prefer to split up my days there, three in a row wears on me. On a good note I did get some online work done for two organizations that I volunteer for... as well as some of the angel ornaments. After a day at the Co-op I just don't feel like coming home and working in the studio so I opted for cooking dinner, photographing work, and getting some reading in.

Remember the cake stands?

I finally glazed and fired one. They are a pain to glaze, but I am happy to report that they didn't warp in the glaze firing. I think bisque firing them upside down helped as well.

I have one more ready to be glazed and fired and if I don't experience any warping I am willing to commit to making more. I have this one listed on Etsy and clicking on the second photo will take you there. I struggled with pricing... of course on Etsy they are priced all over the place. Really nice ones, over a $100, some fairly nice ones for $30 +/-... and crappy ones from $25 - $100!
I settled on $75.

Happy Sunday, I hope everyone is doing exactly what they want to. I am going to get my hands on some clay!

dissapointed.

the new SAPA pottery maps were delivered this morning... we were really excited to be on it!  i opened it up and on the right hand side we are listed as Jeff Brown and Michele Hastings, #88 on the map... THEN when you go to #88 on the MAP it only says Jeff Brown...
they left me off   :-(

luckily the county map is being printed in January... hopefully we will be listed correctly there.

a new community

last night jeff and i attended our first Seagrove Area Potters Association (SAPA) meeting.  we joined just prior to our move down here.
the meeting was a welcome break from all the cleaning, unpacking, etc.  it was nice to reconnect with the potters i met this spring and have the opportunity to meet new people.  this is such a welcoming community and i am really excited about being a part of it!

little by little we are clearing more space to be able to move around in the log cabin... the kitchen is close to being unpacked.  today i think i will tackle the living/dining room, while jeff finishes installing a new vanity in the bathroom... the biggest challenge is trying to get furniture to the second floor via a spiral staircase....

...we remove a second floor window and hoisted the bed through it!  we don't want to do that with the rest of the bedroom set, so our dressers will stay in a small room off of the bath... to make it sound extra fancy we call it our "dressing room".
... back to work now so that i can get closer to being back to work with clay!
