five years...

"The Kiss" Father and Son

It's hard for me to believe that it's been five years since John died. I have stopped counting full moons, but I never stop thinking of him. This week I have been reflecting on the last few weeks of his life. Aside from the day to day and night to night care, we had wonderful visits with family and friends. I think these photos, taken by John's brother Joe, are a peek into the moments we shared. We enjoyed meals around his bedside, laughed, reminisced, listened to, and played music.

John made the choice to die in his own way.

I think he made a good one.

  1. JZ! what a great guy he was. And thanks for writing me just after, introducing yourself! I am certain he would be very pleased to know that following his death you said CARPE DIEM and chucked realty and NH :)

  2. Gone too soon..... What sweet memories he left you though
    Big hug

  3. Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. I love how John's parents have their arms entwined in the photo of the two of them together. I can't begin to imagine how they were feeling, knowing they would outlive their son.
They were courageous and strong throughout this journey. Flying from Maryland every couple of weeks to be with us.

  4. That's the hardest thing for a parent or loved one to outlive the other I think, bittersweet memories.
Great shot of John with the ukulele.
