The results are in

The kiln was unloaded and I guess you could say it was a mixed bag. Mostly because our big ginkgo leaf collaborative pot needs to be re-fired. The glaze was too thin at the bottom. We are hoping it will have a rebirth the second go around. I will spare you a photo of the sadness.

Then there's the good ole kiln fillers...

 The lowly sponge holders. I have started to add more decoration to them and the ones with deco I have bumped up the price, guess what?
THEY STILL SELL!

I played around with a few different little creamer shapes. Next go around they will get tweaked some more. Jeff has been teaching me his wide bottom mug shape, the ones that he throws for me and I handle and carve. I have the shape looking pretty close to his now and I think they will translate nicely into creamers.

As always, there were a bunch of piggy bank orders in this firing. I just love this personalized pig.

Who wouldn't love a pig named Murray? I hope the real Murray loves him too.

An Interesting Commission

Jeff was commissioned to create three large and interesting pieces. They are Mediterranean looking pots that will only be bisque fired. The buyer wants them to have a sandy look to them. If I remember right, they are going into a sunroom in her home. She was inspired by a large Rebecca pitcher that we often put out in our flower garden in the summer. It looks like a relic with a big chunk missing from it, and is unglazed.

 The large pitcher (26") is reminiscent of the Rebecca pitcher.

Large amphora

The coolest one is this "half buried" amphora! I would love to see photos of these pots when they are placed in their new setting. I can imagine them surrounded by lots of plant life.

Happy Easter Weekend

The weather is getting warmer and my grumpy fog has lifted. I haven't gotten back to work in the studio but I did spend some time photographing pots and adding new items to the Etsy shop.

I made this little wall pillow tile/thing or whatever from porcelain. After it was bisqued, I brushed it with black underglaze, wiped it off and glazed it in gloss green.

There is a little hole for hanging on the back. Of course the back is nicer than the front, isn't that always the way?! I am going to start using the underglaze on some larger porcelain pieces, now that I know what it looks like. Jeff asked me the other day if I was going all black and white on him. Maybe black and white with a little green mixed in!

If you are celebrating Easter, I wish you a happy one. Jeff and I are taking it easy today and moving slowly. I may get my hands in some clay this afternoon, I think it's about time.
