is it really Monday already?

Last night we said good bye to Robert Young. He is headed to back to Texas to spend more time with family, before returning to Guam. The photo above are some of the pots that he was able to finish during his stay here. He was fortunate that the weather cooperated, and he was able to get these bowls to the trimming stage in less than a week! Jeff says he's a good student and progressed a lot in this short time. Robert says it's the most pots he has ever thrown in week's time.

We took a couple of breaks on Friday and Saturday and visited some of the area potteries. Above is Robert with Mark and Meredith, over at Whynot Pottery. It was the only photo I took. Robert took lots, so I am sure when he gets home he will post some on his blog and facebook. Also included on the tour were Tom Gray Pottery, Samantha Henneke & Bruce Gholson of Bulldog Pottery, Jugtown, and Westmore Pottery. Everyone was so welcoming and gave studio tours, as well as talking about their processes. If it were a different time of year, we would have been able to get out do more visiting. Hopefully, one day, Robert will return to Seagrove for another visit.

Today is packing day for me. Last weeks kiln load is sanded and ready to be boxed up. Jeff squeezed in one last firing overnight (he is now fast asleep) and we will unload that and pack it up just before we leave for New Hampshire on Wednesday. I am excited about seeing my family and friends up north, but not looking forward to the long drive hauling a trailer, and all the work involved in building the booth for the League of NH Craftsmen Show. I get anxiety just thinking about it. Typically, once we are on the road I am feeling relieved and can take a deep breath.

Thursday Treats

Potter Gary Rith posted a recipe yesterday for raspberry bars. I didn't have raspberries, but I still had some blueberries from Meredith at Whynot Pottery. They were easy to make and delicious! If you don't already read Gary's blog, be sure to check it out... great pots and often some yummy recipes.
Jeff and I have been working right through this heat despite no A/C in the studio. We have to have lots of pots made for the League of NH Craftsman's Fair at the beginning of August. The booth will have only Jeff's pots... I can't be a juried member anymore since moving to NC :-( . Jeff can maintain his status because he has was juried in a gazillion years ago.
Never the less, I am helping him by weighing clay so he can throw 100 mugs & 100 bowls quickly, loading the kilns and glazing. I have had some time to work on some of my own pots as well.

I have continued to play with slip trailing. I enjoy the process, it reminds me of decorating cakes when my girl was little. The unbisqued wares remind me of fondant... they make me want to take a bite!

pay it forward...

i have been the lucky recipient of TWO pay it forward gifts and a blog give away this year. i received a beautiful pair of sterling silver earrings from Jennie of JLK Jewelry and you can see them here on her blog. last week Meredith from Whynot Pottery stopped in with my second pay it forward gift...
the mug is a beauty with an ash glaze that i love... and the RABBIT TILE! she posted this tile on her blog and i mentioned how much i liked it. i need to find just the right spot to hang it.
this really must be my lucky year, Linda over at Blue Starr Gallery did a give away on her blog and i received a really cool print of one of her photographs.
a big thank you to Jennie, Meredith and Linda! i am now planning to pick names for my own pay it forward... stay tuned for an update.
happy wednesday readers!
