The slip has no color so it will a raised texture only. Jeff called it the wedding cookie box :-)

little feet (not little feat)

the studio has been hotter than hell and i got next to nothing done in the past two days. today seemed more tolerable and i did get the next few envelope forms finished and footed...

i decided to not do slip work on these, just a simple swipe of texture with a seashell

once these were done i moved on to making brie bakers. i have never made them before and actually had never heard of them until coming to seagrove. i have baked brie for years but never in little crocks like we have had requests for here. since people keep asking about them i decided to give it a go... i didn't take pics because they are boring little forms. when i bake a brie i spread herb cheese all over it and wrap it in a puff pastry, decorate it with pastry cuttings and bake... i usually use a pie plate because i use a good size wedge of brie and it needs lots of room to puff up. it's pretty and yummy and will send your cholesterol through the roof.
i think once i see if i have the size right for these bakers, i will have to figure out a way to make them mine and a little more fun to make... handles? little feat?... i mean feet...

envelope forms

back to work on ovals... since these are narrow i have been referring to them as envelope forms.

decided to do the leaves and slip decoration on these, typically i stamp them like the one on the left. this morning i threw the parts so i can assemble a few more tomorrow. i have an idea in my head about adding some little feet to the next ones.

finished up a few large bowls today. it's been so humid that these took forever to get to trimming consistency. i wonder how long before they will be dry enough to bisque? no a/c in the studio :-(

back to the ovals

i was having trouble being productive this week so i decided to go back to the oval dishes that i have always enjoyed making.

the middle one is the largest i have made so far... about 15" from handle to handle

this one is a little different, taller and chubbier with a different handle design.
going back to this form helped me out of the funk i was in and i was back to making bowls while waiting for the ovals to be ready to finish.
i would love to wood or salt fire these but i may not be patient enough to wait for that opportunity so i may fire a couple of them in the gas kiln.

this small jar was from the latest gas firing and is now listed in my etsy shop... i was pretty happy with how it turned out:

YUMMY

yesterday we had a cord of wood delivered by a reputable company... not rednecks who arrive in an 

S-10 blazer towing a trailer made out of an old pick-up truck bed (yes, that is how our $40 dollar mostly wet wood & sticks arrived).  these people had a real truck, the wood was dry and split and here is the BEST part... they came into the gallery and bought lots of pottery!  in the end we pretty much just exchanged checks.

P.S. we fired the gas kiln yesterday, can't wait to peek in later!

remember this guy? i made him in northwood before the move... i had regretted not giving him a coat of slip before the bisque firing and wasn't sure how i would glaze him.  at the last minute i decided to put him the wood kiln.  perhaps he is a new breed of brown sheep!
